Foreign Language

Kindergarten students begin studying one of three languages (Spanish, French, or Mandarin Chinese) depending on which language is taught that year.

Students study the same language through 4th grade. Lower School students (K-4) meet daily for 30 minutes.

In 5th grade, students have the opportunity to switch to a different language if desired. Middle School students (5-8) meet 2-3 times per week for 50 minutes.

Each year, all language students participate in the Ashbrook Foreign Language Festival which celebrates the study of foreign languages and cultures. Students create and present skits, sing authentic songs, and perform cultural dances.

All programs adopt best practices which engage students and allow them to achieve a high level of acquisition.  Students typically reach sufficient proficiency at the end of 8th grade to place into second or third year high school language courses.
