Frequently asked Questions:
What is the AIS Explorers Fund?
An independent school relies upon the generosity of its families and friends to provide an exceptional program and environment for its students. Many of the enhancements and “extras” provided at our school are a result of each year’s AIS Explorers Fund (commonly known as the Annual Fund). Without the Explorers Fund, AIS would need to consider an impactful increase in tuition to maintain the same level of educational excellence we have now. Our students are benefiting right now from the philanthropic giving of those who have donated before.
How will Ashbrook use my donation?
There are four categories of spending in the Ashbrook budget: capital outlay, operations, instruction and personnel. Since we work in a human services industry, our personnel expenses will always be our largest area of budget expenditure. The goal is to have our tuition revenue cover the costs of all instructional personnel as well as the expenses related to instruction.
The focus of our fundraising efforts for this year is to ensure the long-term health and safety of our school. It is imperative we commit more funds for capital outlay and operations to maintain the building and its ancillary systems. The expenses in these areas vary from one-time expenditures to items that need to be renewed or replaced on a scheduled basis over a span of years. Expenditures are divided out into the following categories:
Building Maintenance: Tools needed for ongoing building maintenance or larger projects that are required for regular maintenance of the facility.
Cosmetic Improvements: Focused on the overall appearance of an area in the facility.
Infrastructure: Ongoing infrastructure needed to safely and efficiently operate the facility.
Physical Assets: Furniture or other physical property that needs replacing or upgrades due to age to be safer and/or efficient.
Property Improvements: Projects that will improve the overall value and use of the facility and property.
Safety: Ways to improve the overall safety of the facility and property.
Technology: Hardware, software, and infrastructure that need to be replaced or upgraded due to age to be more efficient and better integrate into the instructional program.
Is my gift to the AIS Explorers Fund tax deductible?
Yes, it is! While tuition is not tax deductible, your gifts to the school can be deducted. Check with your tax consultant.
How much should we give?
We hope you will participate at a level that is personally meaningful to you. Your gift, along with others, directly enhances the education of our students.
Can we designate where we would like our gift to be used?
Certainly, though unrestricted donations give the school greater flexibility to use the funds where they are needed most.
Is it acceptable to make an anonymous gift?
Absolutely. We are happy to honor this request.
Do you accept contributions of something other than cash?
Yes – we are happy to accept gifts of stock. Please contact us for info about how to do so.
What about matching gifts?
Each year we receive several gifts which are matched by employers of our donors. We encourage donors to check with their employers to see if this plan is available for them.
Does my pledge need to be paid immediately?
