Dear Ashbrook Families,
As you may have heard, I have accepted the position as music teacher at Ashbrook Independent School. I am thrilled to be joining such a wonderful educational community. I have been in love with music since my first day of beginning band. While advancing in my own musical journey I have discovered that helping students find ways to embrace music is my passion.
I received my MM in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BMus in music education at the University of Oregon. My primary instrument is the saxophone. I have performed with wind ensembles, marching bands, and jazz bands playing soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones.
During my time at UW Madison I taught undergraduate courses in concert band, marching band, instrumental techniques, music education fundamentals, and private lessons. Following this time teaching at the collegiate level I taught K-12 music, band, and choir at the Reedsport School District.
In my spare time I like to be with my family as much as possible. My husband and I love to go camping and hiking with our basset hound, Mabel. Moving to the valley and joining the Ashbrook team also means that we are much closer to our extended family. I see a lot of family cookouts and coffee in my summer plans!
I am looking forward to meeting you and your student in the coming weeks and hope that this summer finds you relaxing and recharging for the school year we will be sharing in fall!
Sincerely,
Olivia Coon
